President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Shamoon Hameed as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
The appointment ceremony was held at the President’s Office this morning.
Before receiving his letter of appointment, Hameed took the oath of membership, administered by Supreme Court Justice Dr Mohamed Ibrahim. President Muizzu then presented him with the official letter of appointment.
Hameed previously served as director of the HRCM’s Investigation Department from 2010 to 2012 and as the commission’s secretary-general from 2012 to 2016.
During his tenure, he also served as the HRCM’s focal point for reporting under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism.
He contributed to national-level studies on educational opportunities for children with disabilities and the protection of children’s rights.
Most recently, Hameed served as permanent secretary at the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage.
