Two Maldivians believed to have connections with the Omani co-pilot suspected of attempting to hijack a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Israel last Wednesday and carry out a terrorist attack have been arrested in the UAE.

According to "Mihaaru News," the two arrested Maldivians live in the same building as the co-pilot Hammam Al-Hamani, who attacked the plane's pilot with a crash hammer. It has also been learned that the two individuals work as co-pilots at Flydubai and also travel to Israel on the airline.

However, it has not yet become clear how the incident connects to the Maldivians.

No further information regarding this matter has been officially disclosed by any institution yet.

While the pilot was attacked and injured on the flight carrying 182 passengers, including many Israelis, the pilot managed to open the cockpit door, allowing crew members and passengers to enter the cockpit, take control of the aircraft, and restrain the co-pilot. The flight landed in an emergency at Saudi Arabia's Tabuk Airport.

The UAE stated today that this was an act carried out by the co-pilot with the intention of launching a terrorist attack. It was also stated that the co-pilot is Hammam Al-Hamani, 29, an Omani citizen, and since he is believed to support extremist ideologies, Omani authorities had previously banned him from obtaining a pilot license. Therefore, an investigation into how he was hired by Flydubai is currently underway.

The UAE Attorney General stated that a wide-ranging investigation is ongoing in cooperation with regional security authorities to determine the real motive behind this incident and whether he had connections with any other group.
