The police stated today that individuals driving vehicles recklessly in a manner that instills fear in the public include employees of government institutions and companies.
Announcing that work has commenced to take strict action against reckless drivers, the police stated in a release that it has been noted that employees of government institutions and companies are involved in such acts, and therefore that information is being shared with those institutions to take available administrative measures against them.
The statement mentioned that work is underway to identify those who drive vehicles dangerously and profile their information. It also stated that after summoning such individuals and admonishing them, criminal investigations will be conducted without further warning against those who repeat these actions, in addition to the fines previously imposed under traffic laws and regulations.
The police stated that action is scheduled to be taken against those who drive in a zigzag manner causing fear, driving with modified vehicles and loud mufflers, speeding across humps, and driving at high speeds without slowing down for speed bumps.
According to the police, action will also be taken against individuals who street race without permission from relevant authorities, stunt driving, dangerous overtaking, driving under the influence of substances, and those who fail to stop or attempt to flee when instructed to stop by the police.
The police reminded in their statement that action will be taken against both the driver and the vehicle owner when tracing recklessly driven vehicles.
The police's announcement of strict action against reckless drivers comes in the wake of a recent serious accident on Sosun Magu in which a young woman passed away.
She was also involved in an accident after being hit by a motorcycle that was being driven in a zigzag manner. Since the person driving that motorcycle did not have a license, he had been stopped and fined four times this year.
In connection with that case, the individual has been arrested and remanded in custody.
