More than MVR 1 million has been raised via a TikTok live for a house to be built for Mohamed Fayyah Hassan (Dhonkalo), a youth who has autism and ADHD, and his father Hassan Fayyaz.

TikTok lives have been held previously to raise money for many people for various reasons, with this one raising the highest amount of money from one event.

The live, named "Hiyaa for Dhonkalo", started at 9:00 pm last night, and was streamed from Hassan Fayyaz's official TikTok account.

The activity took place on popular Maldivian TikTok personalities MTP and Mariyam Sama's initiative, with many Maldivian TikTok hosts taking part and working to raise money.

More than 14,000 people were viewing the live within 30 minutes of it starting. There were 12,000 people viewing the live by the time it ended.

The live took place until 1:00 am last night, with Fayyaz stating more than MVR 1.2 million had been deposited into his BML and MIB accounts.

19-year-old Dhonkalo and his father Fayyaz currently reside in B. Hithadhoo.

Dhonkalo's mother took care of him until he was 13, with Fayyaz taking care of him afterward.

Fayyaz, who was working at Customs in a container clearing role at the time, left his job and went back to his native island to make time for Dhonkalo.

Fayyaz is making a living by logging in his native island, with expenses being paid for from that line of work and the Maldives governments' Disability Allowance.

Even though Dhonkalo was going to therapy before Covid-19, Fayyaz said they have been experiencing financial difficulties since then, and have stopped treatments.

According to Fayyaz, his biggest dream is to finish the house that has ceased construction efforts for a very long time, and to take Dhonkalo there once its done. He said the house still needs flooring, tile laying and wall construction.

Fayyaz went on to say that he did not think they would receive that amount of money last night. He expressed gratitude to everyone who organized the live and everyone who donated.

Some people from the live said they would donate furniture and other amenities for Fayyaz's house.
