Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson and Former President Mohamed Nasheed stated last night that MDP will provide good governance to Maldivians in the future.
During the ceremony to start MDP's 5th Congress, Nasheed said this nation, ad the development and prosperity Maldivians are seeing are efforts from the party.
Nasheed said MDP had introduced a tax system to Maldives, raised state revenue from MVR 7 billion to MVR 40 billion and as a result, economic security has been ensured.
He went on to say that the MDP’s first government introduced benefits for pensioners and orphans, connected the Maldives through the transport system, reducing the isolation of the islands, and helped the country navigate the global Co-19 pandemic.

"This is the party that will continue to find better paths for Maldivians," said Nasheed while highlighting MDP facilitated minimum wage and free education opportunities at the degree level.
During the congress held at Male' City Hall, Nasheed had heavily criticized the current government.
He said that Maldives has been blinded and is falling into a dark pit, and that this government needs to be changed.

While criticizing the People's National Congress (PNC) government's foreign policy, Nasheed said Maldives will only be protected by securing diplomatic relations with neighboring countries.
Nasheed went on to say that he is aware how natural Maldives is and that a good diplomatic relationship should be fostered initially with neighboring countries. He also said putting India first in the order is not in any way speaking ill of Maldivians.
Those comments are not meant to insult neighboring countries, said Nasheed during the ceremony which had foreign ambassadors in attendance.
"The geography of our country that has been formed in the interior of the Indian Ocean, that is our foreign policy," Nasheed said.
Amendments to the opposition party's regulation will be submitted during the congress being held until Saturday. Additionally, an investment forum for councils will also be held.
