Adhaalath Party met with the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr. Abdulla Muththalib yesterday to clarify information regarding the project under United Arab Emirates (UAE) company Eagle Hills, the "Maldives Waterfront and Marina" project.
In a social media post from the party, they said Adhaalath Party President Mohamed Shifan and senior leadership met with Minister Muththalib to clarify important information and related matters.
No additional information regarding the meeting has been given.
While the Maldivian government has signed a commercial terms agreement with Eagle Hills to move forward with a project on a 500 hectare plot in Rasmale' which will include tourism and real estate businesses, the ministry has shared relevant information with the Adhaalath Party and other parties as well.
While 5,000 housing units will be constructed by Eagle Hills in Hulhumale' under the USD 20 billion project, it is estimated that the state will receive revenue exceeding USD 11 billion (MVR 169 billion) over the course of 10 years across the entire project. Yearly revenue figures are projected to go beyond the amount currently being received by the state from 179 resorts, 16 hotels, 920 guesthouses and 165 safari boats in Maldives, said Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Hassan Zareer.
A delegation consisting of senior leadership from the Adhaalath Party (AP), a party that has no political alliances currently, met with the Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed on Sunday to clarify information about the government's policy regarding the introduction of a special visa for foreign investors under the "Maldives Pearl Residence" program.
The Pearl Residence program is a "residency-by-investment" program that has been introduced by the government in diversifying Maldives' economy and to garner the interests of foreign investors. The main purpose of the program is to increase foreign currency for Maldives and to solve economic hardship, said the government.
