STELCO has officially taken over electricity services in Addu City for the second time.
Addu City, the Maldives’ second-most populous city after capital Male', had been receiving electricity services from Fenaka Corporation until the handover to STELCO.
STELCO Managing Director Ali Azwar visited the main power plant in Addu City yesterday and raised the STELCO flag at the facility. He also visited the company’s Maradhoo-Feydhoo office and raised the STELCO flag there.
Addressing staff at the Maradhoo-Feydhoo office, Azwar said STELCO’s second takeover of electricity services in Addu had brought new hope to the city’s residents.
He said the company would provide sustainable, high-quality services using modern facilities.
Water and sewerage services in Addu City, which were previously provided by Fenaka, will be taken over by the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) from today.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced on September 7 that Fenaka would be dissolved, with its electricity services transferred to STELCO.
Citing experts, President Muizzu said Fenaka was not a sustainable company and that the government had therefore decided to liquidate it.
