Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has accused police officers of damaging its main hub in the capital Male, and has filed the incident at the National Integrity Commission (NIC).
During the rally held by the opposition coalition near MDP’s main hub on February 2, the police had allegedly forced its way into the hub while attempting to break up the gathering. According to the party, the officers had damaged equipment inside the hub.
MDP noted that only a few police officers were acting unlawfully and that the majority of the police institution is responsible and works in line with the Constitution. MDP added that it was unfortunate that the actions of a few "corrupt" officers damage the good name of the entire institution.
The party had also raised the issue of police officers pepper spraying the civilians inside the main hub of Jumhoory Party, to the NIC.
