During August, the Zakat Fund disbursed a total of MVR 5.1 million in aid.
This is a 12 percent increase compared to the MVR 4.6 million distributed in August of last year.
According to the Maldives Zakat House, the largest share last month was spent on the categories of the poor and the needy, amounting to MVR 2.3 million. This included MVR 2.3 million disbursed as medical treatment aid and MVR 42,500 for essential needs.
The next largest expenditure was made under the category of Feesabilillah, totaling MVR 2.5 million. This included MVR 1 million spent on conducting religious programs, MVR 797,604 provided as aid for completing higher education, MVR 579,585 spent on translating books, as well as MVR 120,414 spent on Hifz programs and spreading the knowledge of the Holy Quran.
Additionally, August statistics show that MVR 60,061 was disbursed under the category of aiding debtors, while MVR 19,834 was disbursed to stranded travelers.
During last month, MVR 7.3 million was received by the Zakat Fund.
