Families of police officers who pass away while on duty will be entitled to medical treatment under an amendment to the Police Service Regulations.

The regulations were amended yesterday to provide medical treatment to the families of officers who die while serving, in accordance with Article 79 of the regulations.

The amendment also provides that if an officer dies while in service and is subsequently promoted, the officer’s allowances will be calculated based on the salary of the newly promoted rank.

The revised regulations also allow separate funeral ceremonies to be held for police officers who die while serving.

The decision on whether to hold a separate ceremony will be made by the Executive Management Board after considering the circumstances of the officer’s death, the circumstances of the incident and the role played by the officer.
