The court has placed a suspect in remand in custody for 15 days as police investigate allegations of sexual assault of an elderly woman in R. Angolhitheemu.

Police said that the incident had been reported at 8:30pm last night. Police then arrested a 44 year old under a court order at approximately 9:57pm on the same night. 

The court has placed the man in remand in custody for 15 days as police complete their investigations. 

The 72 year old victim was treated and later discharged from the Angolhitheemu Health Centre, police said. 

It has been reported that the woman had been sexually assaulted while she had been offering Isha prayers at her residence. No further details of the incident have been received as of yet.
