The financial statements of members of the People's Majlis have been made public today by the parliament secretariat in accordance with the law.
Under parliamentary regulations, members are required to submit their financial statements before August 31 of each year.
Among them, statements for 91 members have now been submitted, including Mohamed Sinan, the member for the Hithadhoo North constituency who lost his seat. This covers the period from May of last year to the end of May of this year.
This information requires the disclosure of assets, funds, and business shares held in the members' own names. Although the financial statements of members' spouses and children are submitted to the parliament, a committee decided in 2020 that this section will not be made public on the website for viewing by the general public.
According to the information published on the parliament's website, the financial statements that were not submitted within the deadline belong to Ibrahim Mohamed (Janab), the member for the Machchangolhi North constituency, and Yaseen Abdulla, the member for the Naifaru constituency.
If not submitted within the deadline, the parliament secretariat will grant the member a further 15-day notice. If the statement is still not submitted within that period, the presiding officer will officially announce the member's name during a parliamentary sitting.
