Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has informed the public that the change they made to the Hulhumale' Phase 2 flat utility balcony is to be reflected as per their guideline before 28th October.
FDC has previously informed tenants who began moving into the flats and made changes to balconies to cease making the changes and to revert it back to its original state. However, some tenants did not listen to FDC's request.
According to an announcement from FDC, the balconies are to be reverted back to regulation standards by 28th October. FDC said that this is the last opportunity to do so and those who do not comply will be penalized as per their agreement, with action being taken as well.
FDC went on to say that those who have affixed windows in violation of their standards need to revert it back to regulation standards. The regulation on FDC's website reads that making additional changes is prohibited, said FDC.
FDC only allows two situations for such changes, with them being assuring security and to allow the appropriate amount of air into the flats.
Two children fell from two Hulhumale' Phase 2 flats last month, with safety measure revisions being conducted subsequently. The Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the company in charge of monitoring Hulhumale', has begun granting such requests and are establishing safety resources required for flats under its oversight.
HDC will also install railings on flat windows and balconies that increase the height to 1.4 meters.
Balcony railings in homes occupied by children with special needs will also be raised to 1.4 meters. Under its CSR, HDC will close balconies in homes occupied by seriously ill residents if requested.
HDC also plans to install locking and grill systems. The locking system will allow windows to open only enough to prevent children or other people from falling through them.
