Maldives Customs Service has seized 11kg of drugs which were being smuggled into the country via a courier service. 

Customs said that the 11kg of drugs were seized at the Velana International Airport on September 7. The total weight of the drugs, found to be cannabis, is 11.7kg, Customs revealed. 

Customs said that they had discovered the drugs while inspecting two packages brought in to the country via a courier service. Officers suspected that one of the packages contained drugs, and further inspection led to the discovery. 

It is unclear whether the discovery has led to any arrests yet. 

Customs has intercepted similar packages previously as well. 

On September 22, Customs also seized 3.3kg drugs which were being smuggled in through the Gan International Airport.
