GA. Atoll Hospital Managing Director Ali Shameem told Mihaaru News today that there is a delay in using the machine sent by the government in mid-2024 due to hospital electricity network upgrades and structural changes that need to be implemented so that the machine can be placed.

Shameem said the work to upgrade the hospital's electricity network is currently underway.

However, it is unclear how much time will be spent to bring about structural changes so that the machine can be put to use.

Shameem went on to say that the Ministry of Health will issue an announcement in the near future regarding the structural changes and in preparation to begin mammogram services.

Even though another digital x-ray machine was sent to the Villingili Hospital when the previous government changed, the machine was sent back due to it not aligning with the system in the hospital. The current machine was sent two years ago.

Many in the atoll go to receive treatment at Villingili Hospital, where a regular x-ray machine is used. However, the new machine can generate the results very quickly with smaller amounts of radiation.
