Police have arrested a Nepali man for assaulting and mugging a foreign woman in R. Maduvvari.

A video circulating on social media shows the man tackling the woman, causing her to fall on the ground. The man then holds her down, clamps a hand across her mouth, and is seen threatening her. A Maldivian passerby intervened and stopped the assault. 

The video also shows money held by the woman, who reportedly works in a restaurant, fallen on the ground. 

Police said that in relation to the incident, a 24 year old Nepali man has been arrested last Saturday under a court order. 

The court has placed him in remand in custody for five days. Police are continuing their investigation.
