A delegation consisting of senior leadership from the Adhaalath Party (AP) met with the Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed yesterday to clarify information about the government's policy regarding the introduction of a special visa for foreign investors under the "Maldives Pearl Residence" program.

AP, a party that has no political alliances currently, posted on social media stating President of AP Sheikh Mohamed Shifan and senior leadership met with Minister Saeed to gather information on behalf of the party about the "Maldives Pearl Residence" program and to clarify certain important things.

Details regarding what was discussed during the meeting have not been publicized yet.

The Pearl Residence program is a "residency-by-investment" program that has been introduced by the government in diversifying Maldives' economy and to garner the interests of foreign investors. The main purpose of the program is to increase foreign currency for Maldives and to solve economic hardship, said the government.

Foreign investors will have the opportunity to purchase a property under certain real estate projects that Maldives has designated. Under the program, investors will receive a renewable five-to-10 year residency permit to live in Maldives.
