Former President Mohamed Nasheed has decided to publish a book of short stories he has written, with the preorder window now being open.
Titled "Kuruvaahaka - 80s ge Fahukolhu" (Short Stories - Late 80s), it is being printed by a publishing house former President Nasheed has a share in known as Ocean Publishing. The book is priced at MVR 250. Ocean Publishing has said that the book will be published some time next month.
Nasheed wrote in the introduction of the book that he is publishing it to generate more income.
"A large portion of the pension for former presidents has been cut. The money I put away to build a house on a plot at Laamu Atoll has been spent. I do not receive a salary at my position as chairperson," Nasheed wrote jokingly.
Some of the stories in the book are "Chaalaa Zamaan" (Charming Times), "Gaumee Mashroou" (National Project), "Reethi Hadhiyaa" (Beautiful Present) and "Moosabaru" (Captain Moresby).
The character of these stories is "Hassan Kurusee", the character in the story "Hithaai Hithuge Gulhun" (Heart to Heart Connection) he wrote in the 1990s. However, Nasheed assured that he is not the same as the Hassan Kurusee account that is active on Facebook, X and Instagram.
"They are very different in their attitudes and nature. Hassan Kurusee is skinny. He does not have a stomach or a backside. He is not tall. He has a head full of hair. He is nearing his 30s in these stories," described Nasheed.
Nasheed wrote these stories in the 1990s.
"These stories are my real thoughts," stated Nasheed.
Nasheed was a writer and a journalist before he stepped out onto the political arena. He criticized President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's government and wrote for Sangu News. He faced political imprisonment during that time over his writings. In addition to writing history books, Nasheed has written columns for newspapers in Maldives and other countries from time to time.
The books he has written includes "Dhangandu Dhahana" (Iron Armor), "Kihlaa Male''" (Male' Fortress), "Ebbasvevey Ingilaabu" (Agreeable Revolution) and "Dheradhun" (Two Kings). Additionally, he published a study on Mohamed Ameen's government being revolutionized in 1953 named "Veriehge Nimun" (The End of a Ruler).
