Two Nepali nationals have been arrested on suspicion of smuggling drugs into the Maldives after allegedly swallowing the drugs.

The Criminal Court today remanded Eethrani Gale, 40, and Nikka Thamangaage, 47, in custody for three days.

The two were charged with drug smuggling, smuggling and trafficking.

The court held today’s hearing in their absence.

The court order did not state the quantity of drugs allegedly recovered.
