Maldives Immigration has formulated and published a regulation regarding the provision of passenger information for individuals arriving in and departing from the Maldives by air.
This is a regulation formulated under the Immigration Act to obtain information on aircraft arriving by air, departing aircraft, and individuals traveling on those vessels.
Immigration stated that the purpose of formulating this regulation is to ensure the safety and security of the Maldives. Immigration noted that the objective of this regulation is to identify in advance individuals involved in serious crimes, members of terrorist organizations, and individuals known to have connections to such groups before they enter the Maldives.
Some of the information required to be provided under this regulation includes:
- Information regarding the traveling aircraft, including departure date and time, arrival date and time, and passenger count
- Passenger name, gender, nationality, and passport or document number
- Passenger seat number, luggage information, visa details, permanent address, and the address of the destination they are traveling to
This regulation applies to aircraft arriving in the Maldives by air, departing aircraft, owners of such vessels, charterers, agents, aircraft captains, and all others responsible for such vessels.
Information will be shared with Customs in addition to Immigration. The regulation states that when necessary to share with a counter-terrorism intelligence agency, it will be shared with that agency. The institution is obligated to maintain the confidentiality of all information shared with Immigration under this regulation.
Furthermore, Implementation of this regulation will begin on the 30th of next month.
