Police have arrested the foreigner who was rescued after having jumped off the Sinamale' Bridge, while he is still hospitalized for treatment. 

MNDF Coastguard rescued the man after his jump late Wednesday night. Authorities have said that the man is a 31 year old undocumented expatriate worker from Bangladesh. 

MNDF earlier said that they had responded to reports of the incident and searched the ocean near the bridge for the man. He was found in the sea, clinging on to a bridge pillar. 

After the rescue, MNDF handed him over to Police, and he was taken to IGMH for treatment. 

Police have now arrested him on charges of attempted suicide and self harm. The Criminal Court has ordered that he be held in remand in custody for five days, and that he be presented in court within 24 hours after he is discharged from hospital.
