A woman who sustained critical injuries in Sunday's dangerous road accident on Sosun Magu has died in hospital today. 

Police quoted the victim's family and said that 26 year old Aishath Maahidha passed away this afternoon while under treatment at ADK Hospital. 

Maahidha, who worked as an Assistant Immigration Officer at Maldives Immigration, sustained serious injuries in the accident, which saw two motorcycles collide. 

The accident caused severe facial fractures, along with other serious head trauma, for which she underwent surgery at ADK Hospital.

Videos of the accident circulating on social media show that Maahidha suffered heavy bleeding from the head after the collision. She is seen lying motionless on the ground, while the two others involved in the accident are also fallen nearby, with varying levels of injuries. 

The other two injured in the accident are two men, aged 21 and 22.

The 21 year old was later identified as Maahu Hassan, of Asseyri, Th. Dhiyamigili, whose dangerous driving caused the accident. 

Maahu has since been arrested and has been placed in remand in custody for 15 days. 

As per the Criminal Court's remand order, the accident was caused due to Maahu driving a motorcycle recklessly at fast speeds, in a zigzag route across the road, when he crashed into the other motorcycle. 

Police said in court that both the victims of the accident suffered life-threatening brain injuries, the court order states.
