Male' City Council has decided to draft a resolution due to noise complaints regarding loud LED screens affixed in Male' and Hulhumale' that showcase advertisements.

The decision was made during yesterday's city council meeting when South Maafannu Constituency Councilor Ibrahim Labaan presented such a case outlining the lack of a guideline or resolution about LED screens being affixed on roads.

Mayor of Male' Adam Azim stated due to LED boards being put up in roads around Male', Hulhumale' and Villimale', people living in close proximity to the LEDs have complained about difficulties caused by the bright light from the screens being projected into their households.

The Mayor said they have received numerous complaints from the public about the loud advertisements playing on the LED screens in the middle of the night.

According to Labaan, as LED screens are usually put up on roads, the council can make use of the powers they are given by the 19th amendment to the Decentralization Act, which governs the administrative divisions of Maldives, to draft a special resolution in maintaining the security and protection of the public.

The preferred brightness of LED screens, guidelines for mounting them and a system with guidelines detailing how LED screens should be mounted will need to be included in the regulation.

He proposed the issue be referred to the council's Regulatory Committee in drafting the resolution.

The council has decided to draft strong and actionable regulations in mounting and maintaining LED screens after the Regulatory Committee does further research on the matter.
