Police announced today that two brothers from GDh. Thinadhoo, accused of leading a large-scale drug trafficking network, have been arrested. 

The network is suspected of smuggling drugs into the country, and running a wide trafficking operation. 

The two have been identified as Fazleen Mohamed, 38, and Azleef Mohamed, 30, of Hudhuruvaage, GDh. Thinadhoo. 

At their remand hearing, the court placed Fazleen in remand in custody for 70 days, and Azleef for 30 days. 

The two were arrested through a special operation carried out in Thinadhoo, police said, which is part of the larger counternarcotics efforts commenced in July this year. 

The operation was carried out last Monday by the Upper South Police's Counter Narcotics Operation Team, Thinadhoo Police Station and Narcotics Intelligence. 

A residence in Thinadhoo was searched under a court order, and 4.25g of suspected drugs were seized. 

Police said that the brothers are both accused of being leading figures in the trafficking network. 

Thinadhoo Police, in collaboration with Serious Crimes Investigations, are continuing investigations into this case.
