Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) stated last night that due to Phase 3 of the project to expand and pour asphalt onto Male's Boduthakurufaanu Magu in modernizing the road having started, the West Park area has been closed off and the bus route in the area has been temporarily suspended from Monday night onward.
An announcement from MTCC reads that Haveeree Hingun near West Park has been closed off and that the Orchid Route and Orange Hiyaa Route buses will no longer be using the West Park bus stop.
Regarding this change, MTCC said both bus routes will begin at the bus stop near Maafannu Madharusa.
MTCC went on to say that buses that travel on Majeedhee Magu on a regular basis and route past Henveiru back into Maafannu will drive past Kanba Aisa Rani Hingun, disembark and embark passengers at the Social Center bus stop and continue on to Majeedhee Magu from Sabudheli Magu back to the usual route.
While apologizing for any inconvenience caused, MTCC said more information is available via their hotline at 1650.
The Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project commenced in August last year. Under the first phase of the project, the section of the road from the Fish Market to the Republic Square was extended to four lanes and asphalt was newly laid. In phase 2, the section of the road from the Fish Market to the North Harbour was similarly developed. And after that, the road from the Presidential Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal was expanded and asphalt was newly laid.
The section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu that has not yet been redeveloped is the section from Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) to Rasfannu.
In 'The Pulse' podcast by the President's Office, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced previously that work will commence soon to repair and redevelop the part of Boduthakurufaanu Magu which has seen the most severe dilapidation, which is from the MPL area.
While the decision was made to develop said area, the work to relocate Male' Commercial Harbor to Thilafushi has commenced as well.
According to the President, the project to find a permanent solution to the congestion in the Male' Commercial Harbor will see the harbor be relocated to Thilafushi by 11th November 2027.
