Gaafu Dhaalu Hoandeddhoo Council has asked residents not to release chickens, hens and other domestic animals onto the island’s streets and public spaces.

In an announcement, the council said it had received several complaints about the inconvenience caused by animals being left to roam freely around the island.

“Please do not leave chickens, hens and pets on the island in this manner,” the council said.

Chickens and hens are commonly kept without enclosures in island communities, with some residents allowing them to roam freely in public areas.
