An agreement to construct a mosque in Hulhumale' in memory of religious scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed was signed today.

The agreement for the mosque, to be built in Hulhumale' Phase 2, was signed with the Khidmath Association. Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry.

Sheikh Fareed passed away in June of last year at an airport in Malaysia while traveling there to attend a meeting.

A mosque has also been built in Bangladesh in memory of Sheikh Fareed. That mosque was also constructed by the Khidmath Association, with which Sheikh Fareed had worked extensively to increase religious awareness.

A 455-capacity mosque was constructed in Bangladesh. The association had estimated that the mosque would cost MVR 760,000. That amount was fulfilled in less than a day after the association announced fundraising for it. 

Sheikh Fareed was a scholar who frequently conducted lectures and gained popularity among many people. Furthermore, while taking a leading role in reform efforts, Fareed was also among those detained in connection with the events of August 12 and 13.
