With the congress held by the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) coming to an end, the campaign team for the 2028 presidential election has been formed, Speaker of Parliament and PNC Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla said tonight.
Speaking tonight at a ceremony held at the party's office to thank the members who participated in organizing the PNC congress, Abdul Raheem stated that with the conclusion of the congress, it has been ensured that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu can be won the 2028 presidential election with ease. He also mentioned that he is certain that if they work with the same enthusiasm as they did at the congress, the presidential election can be won with ease.
"When the High Council concluded, our 2028 campaign team was very well organized. This is the most successful, most complete, best-organized, and largest congress or High Council held in the Maldives to date," Abdul Raheem said.
Abdul Raheem also stated that the PNC is the largest political party in the Maldives and that no congress rivaling that party's congress has been held in the Maldives to date. He said that things were organized in that manner due to the hard work carried out by some of the party's staff and supporters for about two months.
Abdul Raheem called upon PNC members to start working for the 2028 election without wasting a single second, maintaining the party spirit generated at the congress.
"What the Maldives needs is a governance of our ideology. A governance of the PNC ideology. A governance of the national ideology. A governance of constructive ideology. Constructive ideology today is with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, whether some are satisfied with it or not," Abdul Raheem said.
At the PNC congress, the party presented its presidential ticket to the President to contest the 2028 presidential election. The decision to award the ticket to him was made unanimously by the 1,119 members who participated in the vote taken on the resolution submitted for that purpose.
The resolution to award the presidential ticket to President Muizzu mainly stated that, to prevent the services being rendered by President Muizzu from being disrupted, a second presidential term is deserved by him. The resolution also stated that PNC members and the citizens of the Maldives accept this.
