In order to compete in the MDP primary for the upcoming presidential election, former Vice President Faisal Naseem held consultations with former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) today.

Although he visited Solih's official office to hold discussions, details of the meeting have not yet been provided by Faisal's side. Furthermore, he has remained silent regarding his efforts to secure the MDP ticket for the 2028 presidential election.

Rumors have circulated that Solih supports Faisal, who is the only vice president to complete a five-year term. However, he has not stated anything definitive regarding contesting the primary.

Faisal, who was previously a member of the Jumhooree Party, joined the MDP on February 22, 2024, after the MDP lost the 2023 presidential election. This came about a month after he left the Jumhooree Party, having spent 16 years in that party. Faisal left the Jumhooree Party in January 2024.

Those currently openly campaigning to contest the MDP primary for the presidential election are the party's former president and former foreign minister Abdulla Shahid, former chairperson and former economic minister Fayyaz Ismail, and Hulhumale South Constituency Member of Parliament Dr. Ahmed Shamheed.

As preparations for the presidential election are already underway from this early stage, the ruling party PNC's ticket was awarded to current President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu last Friday.
