The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to charge sitting Mayor of Thinadhoo Saud Ali and three former councilors for allegedly allocating plots illegally in GDh. Thinadhoo to operate a cooking gas business and for generating undue benefits, with the ACC forwarding the case to the Prosecutor General's (PG) Office.
The ACC said the four of them will be charged under Article 513 (b) for the abuse of an official position.
The following individuals will be charged:
- Sitting Mayor of Thinadhoo Saud Ali
- Aminath Naseema
- Ahumeema Ahmed
- Aishath Liusha Zubair
Regarding the case, the ACC said the "Regulation on Land Allocation and Registration for Non-Residential Purposes" clearly states plots cannot be allocated without tender offers if the plot will be used for industrial or business purposes. However, the ACC said the investigation has shown that a plot was allocated illegally to a private company when they applied.
According to the ACC, the decision was made during the 111th meeting held by the Thinadhoo Council's 4th term. The ACC stated three councilors were in favor of allocating the plot without any formal announcement so that the company would gain undue benefits.
Saud signed the agreement with the company on 1st November 2023 on behalf of the council, with three 2,000 square foot plots, including the previously mentioned plot, being illegally allocated to the company so that they can gain undue benefits.
As per the ACC, after the investigation into the case is done, the next stage is filing criminal charges.
