Asphalt is now being laid on the section of Ameenee Magu which is under redevelopment. 

MTCC was awarded a project to redevelop areas of Ameenee Magu in June this year. The project involved relaying asphalt in a selected area of Ameenee Magu as the street was filled with several potholes and defects. 

The section of the road from Voice of Maldives offices to Dharumavantha Hospital was closed in late June. 

Asphalt laying was initially scheduled for last week, but the work had to be delayed owing to severe adverse weather conditions. 

An MTCC official said that asphalt laying began early this morning. 

Ameenee Magu was redeveloped by the Road Development Corporation in July 2022, under the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The project was conducted in several phases, with the last phase completed in 2024, after the current administration assumed office. 

The road saw repairs last year as well, with several defects and damage seen in the asphalt. With road conditions becoming risky for motorists, the government initiated a complete redevelopment of the damaged area of Ameenee Magu. 

MVR 84 million was spent on the first project of redeveloping and laying asphalt on Ameenee Magu. However, the project was marred with allegations of having conducted the work at inflated costs and with low quality material.
