Speaker of Parliament and ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla has announced that the party's congress concluded last night while formally initiating campaigning for the 2028 presidential election. He asserted that the party's ranks are ready for the campaign with unshakeable resolve. 

"Our determination will be unwavering and tireless, and our hearts will continue to hold sincerity and commitment," Abdul Raheem said. 

Abdul Raheem said that PNC's ideology is primarily based on love for the nation, and that along with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the entire leadership of the party must 'come down to the level of the public'. 

He said that governing for the people can only be done by staying at the level of the public, and said that President Muizzu's governance is exemplary in this regard. 

"This is how we can stay strong behind President Muizzu. We cannot do this if we hold on to ego, pride and hubris."

Every member of PNC must be loyal to the country, honest and sincere, adding that unless these characteristics are instilled in members, good governance cannot be practiced. 

He told members that simply concluding the congress and travelling back to their islands is not enough. Instead, members should immediately commence efforts to secure a win in the 2028 presidential elections for President Muizzu, he said. 

"You must not be negligent of your responsibilities, do not be careless towards your duties," he said. 

The future of PNC is clear, Abdul Raheem said, reiterating the strength of the party. 

"If we share a national ideology, if national blood is running through our veins, if a national pulse is beating in our chests, then we must remain strong with President Muizzu."
