The ticket to compete for a second term as the PNC candidate in the presidential election to be held in two years in 2028 was just presented to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu by the party's congress.

The decision to present the PNC presidential ticket, the ruling party, to President Muizzu was decided through a resolution passed during Thursdays special session of the party's congress. The resolution, submitted by Fuvahmulah South Constituency special delegate Abdulla Ibrahim, was passed unanimously by the 1,119 members who participated in that session.

The presidential ticket was presented to President Muizzu tonight at a special session held at the Social Centre to conclude the PNC congress that began last Tuesday, by the party's chairperson and Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla.

The resolution to award the presidential ticket to President Muizzu mainly stated that, to prevent the services being rendered by President Muizzu from being disrupted, a second presidential term is deserved by him. The resolution also stated that PNC members and the citizens of the Maldives accept this.

This resolution was also passed unanimously today by the members elected to the PNC leadership at this congress.

Article 88, Clause (b) of the PNC's basic regulations states that if a member of the party holding the position of President of the Republic submits to the party's membership assembly or congress to compete for a second presidential term, that individual shall receive the presidential ticket without a presidential primary.
