Elections Commission (EC) has stated that through the "eFaas" system, no one has the opportunity to fraudulently register or remove individuals from political parties without their knowledge.
While the People's National Front (PNF) led by former President Abdulla Yameen has submitted the case of EC President Mohamed Shakeel to the police, alleging that PNF members are being removed from the EC registry without their knowledge, the EC released a statement saying that this allegation is contrary to the truth.
The statement noted that ever since the work of establishing political parties and increasing membership began in the Maldives, the most common complaint received from the public and political parties was the issue of forging signatures and deceitfully registering and removing individuals from parties without their knowledge, but since the arrangement for joining and leaving parties through eFaas was facilitated, that complaint has seen a major solution.
The EC also stated that with the introduction of "eFaas" into the parties' membership system, that system has become a trusted, reliable, and transparent system embraced by the public.
"Joining a party and leaving a party is a action that takes place solely between that individual and that party. This is a decision made through personal freedom and choice, without the involvement of any other party," the statement read.
"With matters arranged through such a secure system, removing someone from a party or changing them to another party without any party's knowledge is not something that can be done by this commission or by any other party,".
The EC stated that under the procedure currently implemented, every individual will have the opportunity to join or leave a political party at any time of their own free will through their personal eFaas.
Stating that the PNF continues to speak in a manner that distorts the truth and undermines public trust in the EC and the party membership system, the commission strongly condemned the act.
Furthermore, the EC advised against spreading untruthful narratives and urged that political activities be conducted responsibly.
