The Criminal Court has scheduled the trials for the charges against former President Abdulla Yameen to be held this month.

In connection with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption case, Yameen is being prosecuted on allegations of accepting bribes and laundering money in relation to the leasing transactions of V. Aarah and R. Fuggiri.

Among them, while the Criminal Court had previously delivered an 11-year prison sentence against him in the Aarah case, the High Court later annulled that sentence and ordered the case to be re-examined.

Therefore, while that case and the matter concerning the Fuggiri transaction remain at the Criminal Court, the Fuggiri case has been scheduled for next week. Furthermore, the hearing for the Aarah case has been scheduled for the 29th of this month.

Out of those, the Supreme Court has ruled that new evidence submitted by the state in the Aarah case cannot be accepted. Additionally, the Fuggiri case is currently at the stage of debating regarding evidence and submitting closing arguments.
