Water entered 30 houses in Raa atoll Inguraidhoo following heavy rain yesterday, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said.

NDMA said heavy rain had caused flooding on several islands in the northern atolls, with Inguraidhoo among the worst affected.

The authority said flooding in Inguraidhoo caused significant damage to some houses.

The island council, local institutions and residents are working together to prevent further water from entering homes, NDMA said.

The authority is also working to restore electricity to areas where power was disrupted by the flooding.

Raa atoll Rasmaadhoo and a large area of Lhaviyani Naifaru have also experienced flooding.

Heavy rain has caused flooding in several parts of the country since last Thursday. In the south, homes in Addu City have reported some of the most significant damage.
