The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has begun providing aid to those whose homes had suffered the most amount of damage leading to them being evacuated and relocated during the heavy rains that has been falling across southern Maldives since last week.
NDMA said there was flooding in Gaafu Alif, Gaafu Dhaalu, Fuvahmulah and Addu, with the weather now getting better.
They also said the services that were interrupted due to the rain have been restarted, with councils informing them that the status is going back to normal.

NDMA said they have begun cleaning the houses that were damaged in the rain, identifying the damages, and taking families back to their homes after being temporarily relocated due to living difficulties.
The authority stated they have solved the sewerage issues in some islands caused by the flooding and have brought the service back up and running, with everything almost returning to normal.
Additionally, NDMA said they are providing health instructions from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) that need to be paid attention to when cleaning the houses that were damaged.

Addu Feydhoo suffered the most amount of damage. Around 80 houses on the island were flooded, which caused varying degrees of damage. Of the 80 houses, seven of them were completely uninhabitable, with people being relocated.
The Maldives Meteorological (MET) Office’s forecast stated that the rain will slowly subside from Thursday onward.
