President of the People's National Congress (PNC) President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has requested PNC members to stay as a family as an example on the political arena.

During the congress to start Maldives' current largest party PNC's vice presidency election held at Social Center this morning, President Muizzu said that national interests need to be prioritized, and that they need to set an example where the party's interests need to be set aside and to put the interests of building the future of the country.

The President went on to say that members are attending the party's congress so they can provide to the best of their ability, with the strong aim to expand the party's role and to work together.

"Nation" is the party's first slogan and party members will advance with that in mind, said the President.

"We are here to expand the party's role in national matters, for all of us to work together as one and for all members to work with the same spirit as one family," said President Muizzu.

"We assure you that we will serve as an example in improving the political arena of Maldives to a more complete version of itself."

President Muizzu stated that when they took office, PNC only had 3,000 members but now, it has gone up to 80,000.

The President said this is the result of the efforts of all party members in their efforts to strengthen the party.

While many people are running for various positions in PNC's congress, the internal election will see the President of the Youth Wing, Vice President, Secretary General and Treasurer be elected, with candidates running for the same positions for the Women's Wing as well.

PNC has more than 77,000 members and the party's congress will be held from today until Friday.
