Maldives and Malaysia have today signed memoranda of understanding to cooperate in areas of Islamic affairs and defence.
Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim is currently in Maldives on a two-day State visit.
The MOUs were signed in a ceremony held at the President's Office this morning, following official talks between the leaders and delegates.
The MOU on cooperation in Islamic Affairs was signed by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and Malaysia's Minister of Trade and Investment Johari Abdul Ghani.
The MOU on defence cooperation was also signed by Minister Johari, with Defence Minister Hassan Rasheed signing on behalf of the Maldives.
Earlier this morning, a ceremonial welcome was accorded to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Republic Square.
The Prime Minister was officially received by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
Students of Dharumavantha School then gave a cultural performance, after which a 21-gun salute was given by Maldives National Defence Force, followed by a Guard of Honour.
