Speaker of Parliament and Chairperson of ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Abdul Raheem Abdulla has stated that the party's congress set to start tomorrow will be 'exemplary', and invites representatives from other parties to attend and experience its proceedings. 

The PNC congress will span from tomorrow until September 18. As it approaches, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is today meeting with various teams that will be participating in the congress.

The congress will be held at the Social Centre. In an interview regarding the event granted to MMTV, Abdul Raheem recalled that he had previously participated in two DRP congresses, two PPM congresses and a PA congress. In none of these cases had the party's president held pre-meetings with participants, he noted. 

He revealed that President Muizzu has now met with steering committee presidents. The president is now meeting with presidents of Women's Committees, after which he will meet with heads of Youth Branches, Abdul Raheem shared. 

During the afternoon, the president will meet with council presidents and the party's constituency presidents and vice presidents. 

Abdul Raheem confirmed that President Muizzu will be meeting with all participants before the congress kicks off. This approach is exemplary within a multi-party political system, Abdul Raheem said in praise of the ruling party's arrangements. 

"What this means is that the president will personally meet with all participants of the congress before the actual event. He will meet them and spend some time with them. This is something that should be taken as a great example within the party system," Abdul Raheem said.

"A congress such as this has never been held to date since the introduction of multi party politics in the Maldives. So I want to call upon other parties to come visit, they will gain a lot of experience to prepare for similar activities within their own parties."

Abdul Raheem stated that meeting with congress participants ahead of the event had been initiated by the President himself on his own prerogative. This, he said, is why a day had been added before the main event. 

There are several candidates running for the party's internal leadership positions. Positions up for election include President, Vice President, Secretary General and Treasurer for both the party's Youth Movement and Women's Branch. 

PNC members have been arriving in capital Male' City since yesterday to attend the party's congress. 

The party currently has over 77,000 registered members.
