Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that the ministry is seeking to design special attire to be worn by Imams leading prayers in mosques.

In a message shared today with media, Minister Shaheem announced that a decision has been made to design special attire to be worn by Imams performing Friday prayers, Eid prayers and general daily prayers.

Shaheem said that the design will also include a taqiyah.

The ministry will be opening up applications for design proposals in the near future, he added.

At present, there is no designated attire for Imams to wear when leading prayers. However, Imams are frequently seen donning Arabic-inspired jubbahs during eid or Friday prayers.

The ministry has previously designed a gown and taqiyah for the Hafiz graduation ceremony.
