Health Protection Agency (HPA) urged the public today to be vigilant as cases of diarrhea and vomiting are increasing in various regions of the Maldives.

The HPA has requested that important preventive measures be taken against diarrhea and vomiting.

Accordingly, the HPA has urged that if any other symptoms appear in addition to diarrhea, medical advice should be sought without delay.

It has been urged to consult a doctor if these symptoms appear:

  • Frequent vomiting
  • Severe fatigue and inability to consume fluids
  • Dizziness
  • Unusual thirst
  • Abnormal abdominal pain
  • Presence of blood in vomit or stool
  • Decreased urination

If experiencing diarrhea, the HPA has requested the frequent consumption of fluids such as oral re-hydration salts (ORS packets), water, and soup.

In addition to washing hands thoroughly with soap after using the restroom and before preparing food, the HPA also urged sanitizing restrooms thoroughly after use.

The HPA also urged that children not be sent to school and individuals not report to work for one full day after symptoms have subsided.
