He said the National Curriculum is designed to prepare students not only for examinations but also for life beyond school.

Addressing the themes of the conference, he said a strong education system should not focus solely on academic performance. He highlighted the importance of technical and vocational skills in supporting industry, innovation and a resilient economy.

He also called for more inclusive classrooms where students, regardless of their abilities, learning differences or backgrounds, receive the support needed to achieve their goals.

VP Hussain also reaffirmed the administration’s support for educators, saying policies, curricula and innovations cannot succeed without teachers’ support and leadership.

During the ceremony, Education, Higher Education and Skills Development Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu presented VP Hussain with a commemorative plaque.

The National Institute of Education (NIE) is holding the conference from September 12 to 13 under the theme “Reimagine, Rethink, Reform – Advancing Innovation for an Equitable and Resilient Future”.

The conference brings together local and international educators, education leaders and researchers to discuss developments and challenges in education.

The Education Ministry said 300 people have registered for the conference, with 106 participants set to deliver 70 presentations.

Four workshops will also be held for conference participants.
