Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has forecast rain across most parts of the country over the next three days as rain clouds are expected to increase.
In a statement issued today, MET said the southwest monsoon (Hulhangu monsoon), is expected to lead to the formation of more rain clouds over the region during this period.
Rain is therefore expected across most parts of the country over the next three days, with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms.
MET said winds in the southern atolls are expected to blow from the southwest and west at 5 to 22mph, with gusts of up to 40mph during showers.
Seas in the southern atolls are expected to be slightly rough, becoming rougher during showers, while seas elsewhere are expected to remain rough.
MET has advised the public to monitor weather conditions and take necessary precautions during the period.
The Hulhangu monsoon typically lasts from May to November, while the Iruvai monsoon runs from January to March. April and December are generally transition periods between the two monsoons.
According to the Maldivian nakaiy calendar, today is the 12th Nakaiy of Hulhangu and the fourth day of Uthura Nakaiy, a period during which winds are traditionally expected to strengthen and seas to become rougher.
