Heavy rain has caused a ceiling collapse at the facility in F. Nilandhoo housing children under state care, Amaan Hiyaa. The children residing there have been provided with temporary shelter following the incident.

Nilandhoo Council President Ali Ahmed said that the island saw heavy rains for about an hour from 8pm last night.

The rains caused parts of the facility's ceiling to collapse, as well as electricity issues.

The facility houses 11 girls at the moment. Ali confirmed that none of the children were injured in the incident.

Following the incident, the children were moved to the council's accommodation block last night, he said.

"We immediately transferred all the children to the accommodation block while ensuring their safety and protection, with the help of Nilandhoo Hospital, council, police and MNDF," Ali said.

The National Disaster Management Authority has also responded to the incident.
