Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed stated today that an agreement to construct a parking building in the Heenaamaage parking zone on Majeedhee Magu and the Sosunge parking zone on Sosun Magu will be signed next week.

While speaking at a media briefing held at the President's Office, Saeed said they have found a company who wants to build parking buildings on both plots. He also said that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has requested the project to be completed before November 2027.

According to the minister, the fee for the parking building will be at a rate the public can afford.

"We have identified a company who wants to establish a state-of-the-art parking facility on the Heenaamaage plot and are currently in talks with them. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated there will be space for the second building the government wants. That is the plot next to the MNU building on Sosun Magu.

Minister Saeed said that even though the two buildings will be constructed by private companies, the parking rates will be set by the government.

Saeed went on to say that the newly established parking facilities will have separate parking spaces for two-wheeled vehicles and four-wheeled vehicles.

The minister continued, stating the project to solve the issue of a lack of parking space in Maldives does not only have a parking structure, and that mechanical parking will be established as well.
