Newspapers and magazines that do not re-register under the General Regulation on Registration of Newspapers and Magazines will have their registrations canceled after the 27th of October, the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC) said today.

In an announcement released by the MMBC, it stated that newspapers and magazines operating under registration pursuant to the Newspapers and Magazines Act must re-register and update their records within six months under the "General Regulation on Registration of Newspapers and Magazines."

The MMBC stated that the final deadline provided for the matter expires on October 27.

Therefore, the announcement stated that the registrations of newspapers and magazines that fail to re-register and update their records upon the expiration of that deadline will be canceled in accordance with the regulations.

Newspapers and magazines operating in the Maldives were previously required to register with the Youth Ministry. However, upon the inception of the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission, the responsibility of registering newspapers and magazines and maintaining their registry was entrusted to that commission.
