The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged the nation to take preventive measures against health issues that may arise from the extreme heat in Maldives.
A social media post from the agency reads that serious health issues such as heat stroke may occur due to high temperatures. Symptoms of heat stroke include blurred vision, confusion, high body temperature, heat rash and a fast heart rate.
If symptoms of heat stroke are visible, HPA has advised to contact the emergency services hotline by dialing 100, to take the affected individual to a shaded area, loosen their clothes so their body can cool down, dab them with a cold or wet cloth, and to not give them anything to drink.
If someone succumbs to any other health issue due to extreme heat, HPA's instructions are to call emergency services as soon as possible, take the affected individual to a shaded area, cool them down and give them something to drink if they are conscious.
The feels-like temperature in the Male' region today is between 33 to 34 degrees Celsius.
While the weather forecast stated that Male' and Hanimaadhoo would have a temperature of 35 degrees Celsius today, the Maldives Meteorological (MET) Office predicted Kadhdhoo would experience a temperature of 36.8 degrees Celsius. Their forecast for Kaadedhdhoo and Addu Gan read that the islands would experience a temperature of 37.3 and 34.8 degrees Celsius respectively.
