It has been learned that efforts are underway to serve a summons chit ordering former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom to present himself to the police service.

A person knowledgeable about the matter confirmed tonight that police went to H. Dhoovehi today with a summons chit issued directing Yameen to present himself to police regarding an ongoing investigation.

However, it is not yet clear whether the chit has been delivered to Yameen or not. Furthermore, it is also not yet clear regarding which issue Yameen is being summoned to the police.

While efforts are underway to summon Yameen to police, police have launched an investigation into statements made by Yameen regarding the fire incident that occurred in December 2024 at the building housing three ministries and a portion of the Malé City Council. Home Minister Ali Ihusaan directed the police to investigate the matter.

Minister Ihusaan's announcement that he had directed police accordingly came after Yameen stated at a PNF meeting that the three ministries were set on fire and that even the police would know who committed the act.

Minister Ihusaan's social media post stated that regarding Yameen's absolute assertion that the buildings were set on fire and that police know who did it, he had requested police to clarify the information known to Yameen and to investigate further if any matter requiring additional inquiry is identified in the investigation.

At the PNF meeting, Yameen alleged that police even know how close the person who set fire to the three ministries on the morning of December 12, 2024, is to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Yameen also stated that the police service possesses that information.

Regarding Yameen's allegation, Home Minister Ihusaan stated that findings from the joint investigation conducted with investigative experts from friendly nations into the fire incident at the building housing three ministries showed that the incident occurred due to an electrical wire fire.
