Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that more than 2,000 students are currently memorizing the Quran in the Maldives.

The minister stated today that the increasing number of Hafizes in the Maldives is a matter of joy. In particular, the minister considers young people memorizing the Quran to be something that will brighten the Islamic future of the Maldives.

"Up to this point, the number of Hafizes in the Maldives has reached 322. Next Ramadan, God willing, it is expected that a large number of Hafizes will graduate," the minister said.

Shaheem stated that the government accords great importance to increasing the number of Hafizes, with the target being to raise the number of Hafizes to 500 during this term. The minister also noted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has increased the state allowance given to Hafizes to encourage them.

Shaheem also said that Quran memorization projects have been expanded.

He stated that up to this point, more than 2,000 students across the Maldives are memorizing the Quran, with the highest number of students studying at the Centre for the Holy Quran and the Ilm Institute.

Under the policy established by the government to expand Quranic knowledge to all islands in the Maldives, branches of the Centre for the Holy Quran have now been registered and functionally commenced operations in 30 islands. The minister added that efforts are underway to register an additional 20 places.

"Work is underway to construct 38 additional places. The goal is to extend this project to all islands within the next two years," the minister said.

The minister stated that in the branches of the Quran Centre operated in the islands, the responsibility of teaching Quran is also being added to the job descriptions of Imams.
